New Year, (hopefully) new music...

And a Happy 2014 to everyone. Unfortunately RL has a nasty habit of creeping up to you and then filling up all your available time, which meant I couldn't update the blog in 6 months! Among this year's resolutions is to actually find some time to do regular posts! But again, I cannot really promise anything.

In the meantime, since I vowed to dance to a different tune this year, let's take a look at the music world. I bet I'm not the only one missing Alicia Keys' gorgeous headscarves.
Alicia used to wear some beautiful wraps both on and off scene, but she seems to have (one hope temporarily) adopted a different style now. But we don't have to despair, there's a good contender to the throne of Scarf Queen of Music...

... And it happens to be Kaye-Ree. This strikingly beautiful, Iranian-German soul artist first appeared in 2009 with her first album, Endless Melody. She habitually wears a low bun-style headscarf both on and off-scene, and it has become her trademark look.

She doesn't just look beautiful and elegant, she sounds beautiful and elegant as well. You don't have to take my word for it, just listen to her.

We'll see if her style makes waves too!

Two great tutorials

Browsing around on YouTube I happened upon a couple of great headscarf-related tutorials I would like to share…

The first one is by Julie Bloom, beauty and fashion editor and blogger, who in this video teaches how to tie three headscarf and two headband styles, inspired by Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez’s look.

This is the first headscarf style she demonstrates. Notice that in the video she calls it the “Grace Kelly style”, even though it’s what we would call an off-center Classic or Traditional style. It’s all right, however, because there is absolutely no official nomenclature. I like the fact that although she had the scarf slip from her hair on her first attempt, she didn’t edit it out. All ladies who have ever tied a headscarf know this happens, especially with silk.

The second one she calls the “Hollywood style”, which is what we would call a “Grace Kelly” or “Audrey Hepburn” style. Again, there are no official names for those styles.

The last one is commonly known as a “low bun wrap” and is a modern and trendy style

This is the style popularized by Jennifer Lopez in numerous occasions…

… Although other celebrities like Stana Katic have worn it to great effect.

The second video tutorial is by Lilith Moon, model and blogger. Her tutorials are centered around hair styles and care.

In her video Lilith demonstrates 3 headscarf styles, one neck scarf style and a lot of stylish headbands.
The first headscarf she demonstrates is what she calls a “modern turban bow”. It’s an elegant take on the front-tied wrap.

The second one is meant to be another version to the turban bow, it looks like a rear tie or a side tie, but it’s tied with the same beautiful bow knot as the first one.

The third one is called an “exotic turban” and is another elegant take on the front-tied headscarf.

It’s amazing how much of a difference a simple knot and its position mean!

Apart from the headscarf tutorials, I can only recommend those blogs and YouTube channels to all ladies around here, who will undoubtedly find the style and fashion tips useful and interesting.
