Headscarved celebrities

After Rihanna's Classic from the last post, I thought to wrap up (pun intended) some pictures of modern-day female celebrities wearing headscarves.
Here is Anne Hathaway in a nice and elegant Rear Tie, while on holiday in Italy...

... The way she's wrapped looks like an attempt at Glamorous Disguise. Below, some pictures of her in another Rear Tie while out and about.

All I can say is, she looks great. I wish she would wear the style more often!

Here is Sharon Stone in a Classic headscarf on the set of Fading Gigolo.

I don't know is Sharon, already a Scarf Lady on my site, will have headscarf scenes in the movie. Those pictures are from the set.

Another real-life Scarf Lady now, Jennifer Lopez, in a couple of pictures of her wearing a peculiar Rear Tie style known as a Low Bun Wrap. This is a look she made very popular.

This is a more conventional Rear Tie, one of many she has worn in formal occasions.

Below from left to right: Natalie Portman and Katie Holmes in Rear Ties, then Stana Katic in a Low Bun Wrap and Courtney Love in a Classic.

Beyoncé Knowles is a great headscarf wearer, especially fond of the Rear Tie.

And here is Lady Gaga, in another Rear Tie.

Nicole Richie has done a lot to make the Rear Tie popular again, involving her (then) friend Paris Hilton in the trend.

And to end this post, it's great to see on of the great real-life present-day Scarf Ladies going back to wearing headscarves. None other than Alicia Keys, in her trademark Rear Tie.

I'll keep an eye open for more real-life Scarf Ladies. Stay tuned!

Two great tutorials

Browsing around on YouTube I happened upon a couple of great headscarf-related tutorials I would like to share…

The first one is by Julie Bloom, beauty and fashion editor and blogger, who in this video teaches how to tie three headscarf and two headband styles, inspired by Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez’s look.

This is the first headscarf style she demonstrates. Notice that in the video she calls it the “Grace Kelly style”, even though it’s what we would call an off-center Classic or Traditional style. It’s all right, however, because there is absolutely no official nomenclature. I like the fact that although she had the scarf slip from her hair on her first attempt, she didn’t edit it out. All ladies who have ever tied a headscarf know this happens, especially with silk.

The second one she calls the “Hollywood style”, which is what we would call a “Grace Kelly” or “Audrey Hepburn” style. Again, there are no official names for those styles.

The last one is commonly known as a “low bun wrap” and is a modern and trendy style

This is the style popularized by Jennifer Lopez in numerous occasions…

… Although other celebrities like Stana Katic have worn it to great effect.

The second video tutorial is by Lilith Moon, model and blogger. Her tutorials are centered around hair styles and care.

In her video Lilith demonstrates 3 headscarf styles, one neck scarf style and a lot of stylish headbands.
The first headscarf she demonstrates is what she calls a “modern turban bow”. It’s an elegant take on the front-tied wrap.

The second one is meant to be another version to the turban bow, it looks like a rear tie or a side tie, but it’s tied with the same beautiful bow knot as the first one.

The third one is called an “exotic turban” and is another elegant take on the front-tied headscarf.

It’s amazing how much of a difference a simple knot and its position mean!

Apart from the headscarf tutorials, I can only recommend those blogs and YouTube channels to all ladies around here, who will undoubtedly find the style and fashion tips useful and interesting.

Small scarves

In this month's update to my site, Leighton Meester from Gossip Girl gets to show a pretty Classic headscarf in an episode of the very first season. I admit I don't watch much TV (I lack the time) so I can be forgiven not knowing a lot about this show in particular, chronicling the lives and loves of a bunch of privileged young adults in NY. This scene however was pointed out to me (and it dates back to 2007!)...

As you can see, Leighton (playing Blair Waldorf) wears an unusual type of headscarf for a character her age. Since in the scene she's after a kind of Glamorous Disguise, a Kelly wrap would have probably been more in tune with the times, and a full large Classic would be too much...

... But then I found out Blair is a huge Audrey Hepburn fan, going as far as dreaming herself in her place in scenes from Breakfast at Tiffany's...

Audrey Hepburn has worn a great deal of headscarves throughout her life and career, including some small Classics.

The small-sized Classic seem to be back in favour with fashion designers as well, as seen in the Prada campaign already discussed here, and in the Autumn-Winter Wheels & Dollbaby "Theatre Dejazet" ad campaign by Ellen Von Unwerth.
So it's no wonder Leighton's character chose that particular style. Browsing about a little I found some pictures taken on the set during the filming of that episode, showing Leighton Meester tying on her headscarf by herself...

... And with the help of co-star Blake Lively.

Had they thought to include those scenes in the extras, it would have been reason enough to buy the series in DVD!

So far I haven't heard of more scenes, but Leighton Meester looks great in a more modern Rear Tie (this from a Self Magazine 2008 photoshoot). I'll keep my eyes open anyway!
