Liz & Lindsay

I finally managed to take a look at "Liz & Dick", the Primetime TV movie centering around the stormy love story between Liz Taylor and Richard Burton. It won't win any award for acting or screenwriting, but the photography was good and the costumes great. I don't think Lindsay ever gets to wear the same outfit twice.

And of course, there are the headscarf scenes. Here is Lindsay wearing a turban-like rear tie...

There is a convertible ride at one point where she (or her stand-in) wears a Classic wrap. Unfortunately there aren't any close-ups. How could they have Lindsay in a Classic and not show her?

A shame, that was the only scene in the movie with a wrap other than rear ties or turbans. Fortunately, LiLo
does wear a variety of them from simple peasant-type ones...

"Liz & Dick" is not an especially great movie but neither a complete train wreck. I suspect it won't be the final word on the last ever diva, anyway.

In love with the past

Is it just me or the love story between TV and movie productions and the '50s-'60s is at an all-time high? Tonight premieres the Primetime TV-movie "Liz & Dick", starring Lindsay Lohan as Elizabeth Taylor. I don't really know what to expect, but Liz has been a great headscarf wearer through her life and career...

... And LiLo herself is a great headscarf fan herself...

... In keeping with modern trends, she is more of a Rear Tie than a Classic wearer. So far, the only pictures of a headscarved Lindsay from the set show her in a kind of Turban/Rear Tie wrap.

We'll have to wait a little more to see if the costume designers have seen it fit to have her wrapped some other way. In the meantime, another great Hollywood legend is getting the biopic treatment in a grander scale as Nicole Kidman steps into Grace Kelly's shoes (or headscarf!) for the movie Grace of Monaco.

Of course, Princess Grace was another great headscarf wearer, to the point of having a wrap style unofficially named after her. So far, we have only seen Nicole in a Classic wrap...

We'll have to wait until 2014 to see the movie, but it's nice to see Nicole properly and elegantly headscarved!

Classic Hollywood glamour was also a subject of the TV movie The Girl, starring Sienna Miller as Tippi Hedren. A shame her headscarf scene (in a Kelly wrap) only show her from behind or from far away in the opening scenes.

Given the sudden pique of interest for the era, we'll probably see more productions, and more headwraps. Fingers crossed!



Channeling Liz

September's issue of V magazine featured a great photoshoot by Mario Testino, with Academy Award and Emmy winner (and I must add, Scarf Lady award winner) actress Kate Winslet channeling the last ever diva, the late Dame Liz Taylor, in a variety of poses wearing jewelry, turbans and - of course - headscarves.

All in all it's a very nice tribute to Liz, but I wish the photoshoot could have been bigger and even more varied. Kate surely looks great in a headscarf! She has already worn a Kelly in Hideous Kinky and a Classic in Enigma and in the miniseries Mildred Pierce, so it's a bonus seeing her in a Rear Tie.
